At Dark Horse Wine, we believe victory is yours to define – that the greatest victories result when impossible odds face off against steadfast determination. Our victory is delivering a surprisingly great wine at a reasonable price. We get the first pick of grapes from 400 growers, and we taste our wines over 100 times before you pour your first glass. The result? A portfolio of award-winning wines for every occasion.

We set out to disprove the belief that you can’t get a quality wine for under $20. While most people inherently assume that price = quality, in a national blind taste test of over 800 consumers, the majority of people who tasted Dark Horse believed it should cost at least $20 based purely on the taste. Now, Dark Horse is the only wine brand under $10 that has been proven to taste like a $20 wine. To deliver on our brand promise, we created the Dark Horse Challenge to test consumers with the most expensive taste, Beverly Hills Shoppers, to see if they could guess the Dark Horse.

Beth Liston

Winemaker

Director of Winemaking, Beth Liston discovered her interest in the world of wine while growing up on California’s Central Coast. During college, Beth worked in a local tasting room where she fell in love with the craft. She quickly developed a fascination for the combination of art and science that goes hand in hand with making great wines.

Beth earned a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Business Administration with a minor in Wine and Viticulture from Cal Poly in San Luis Obispo. Upon graduation, Beth completed graduate work in the Food Science department and worked in On-Premise wine sales in Austin, Texas before setting her sights on winemaking. With more than a decade of harvests behind her, Beth has accumulated a diverse collection of winemaking experiences from the Limestone Coast of South Australia, to Napa, and now California’s Central Valley.

Beth pours her passion and creativity into the bold wines of Dark Horse. She constantly experiments with different grape varieties, innovative vineyard management and winemaking techniques to create exceptional wines that over deliver on quality.

Beth’s passions extend beyond the vineyard and cellar. Outside of work, Beth enjoys spending time with her husband, Daniel, and their two sons. She also loves traveling and exploring new cultures through food and wine. After a long week, Beth says there is no better way to relax than yoga, hanging with friends or exploring the Bay Area with her boys.
