By streamlining and digitizing the processes of an antiquated industry, Press Hook is making the news cycle stronger and more reliable. It is the first market network of it's kind, matching brands with relevant top journalists who are more likely to write about their products and services. Journalists spend less time sifting through irrelevant pitches while diversifying their sources, and brands get the timely earned media coverage they deserve.

In an effort to help small businesses, Press Hook unlocks a new marketing channel for the 70 percent of small businesses who need press but don’t have the resources.

Founding Story

Michelle Songy experienced as a first-time founder just how difficult it was for a startup to access the media in a meaningful way. She couldn’t afford a full-service agency on her bootstrapped budget, and found the process of personal outreach time consuming, and yielding no results.

She sold that company to American Express, and after 2 years working there, traveled to remote areas abroad to consider her next move. It was while traveling and talking to local businesses Michelle realized just how many small companies lacked access to the media, a powerful source of revenue and recognition.

Michelle came back in Spring of 2020 and got to work on her new mission - a tech-enabled earned media marketplace specializing in promoting startups and small businesses. She ran a beta program by summer of 2020 and helped over 50 businesses scraping by on a tight budget throughout COVID. Michelle launched the MVP for Press Hook in the fall of 2020 and since then has connected over 500 brands with journalists that's resulted in over 5,000 press features.

With newsrooms pushing content and hundreds of new businesses launching every day, there are thousands of innovative products and stories to be told, and no signs of slowing down for Michelle and her team at Press Hook. They are redefining the earned media game by connecting hundreds of journalists with innovative businesses with more efficiency, affordability, and relevance - every day.

Team Bios

Michelle Songy is an experienced public and media relations executive, entrepreneur and change-maker. After relocating to London for a position with Coca-Cola, Michelle founded her first company, Cake Technologies. It became the United Kingdom’s largest mobile payment platform for restaurants and was sold to American Express in 2017.

Michelle has a 10+ years experience developing, managing and marketing businesses from start-ups to Fortune 500 companies including American Express and Coca-Cola. Prior to that, Michelle graduated from the University of Georgia, in the Terry School of Business with a degree in Management Information Systems.

In 2020, Michelle got to work on her new passion project: a tech-enabled earned media platform specializing in promoting brands, especially small businesses. By the summer of 2020, she ran a beta program and helped more than 50 businesses scraping by on a tight budget throughout COVID. Since then, Press Hook has helped hundreds of brands get featured in thousands of articles through their network of top media outlets with a combined reach of over 1 billion unique monthly viewers.
