UME was founded in 2020 by Jenn Toyzer, an MIT graduate who spent over a decade building a successful career in finance in New York City. She loved crafting unforgettable moments with friends—whether immersive theme dinners, spontaneous rooftop gatherings, or perfectly curated cocktails. Yet there was always one thing missing: the perfect drink.
Jenn faced a “Goldilocks” problem. Spirit-based cocktails were too sweet, too bitter, or too boozy, while low-ABV options like beer, RTD, or wine didn’t capture the magic of the moment. She envisioned something different—elevated, vibrant, and light enough to enjoy throughout an entire evening. A spirit that was delicious refreshing, and endlessly versatile—beautiful, unique, and truly an experience in itself.
One night, Jenn discovered a plum spirit that struck her like lightning. Tart, nuanced, and full of potential, it was exactly what she had been searching for. Inspired by its unique flavor and the opportunity to create something revolutionary, Jenn left her finance career behind. Less than a year later, UME was born—a first-of-its-kind plum spirit crafted by and for the night time reveler.
