Pup Wax was founded in 2019, when Julie realized her lifelong dream of building a business that makes the world a better place for dogs. Their mission is helping dog parents enrich their dogs' lives by transforming their health from the outside in. Julie developed Pup Wax after shopping for a paw balm for one of her foster dogs, a beagador named Tuxedo, and being unable to find any solutions with suitable, safe, and effective ingredients. Dog skin is only 1/3 as thick as human skin - this means, in some areas where it’s at it’s thinnest, it’s only maybe 3-5 cells thick. That means our dogs are even more vulnerable to absorbing toxins through the skin than we are - and their skin will absorb any chemicals and toxins that are topically applied. Existing solutions were at best using filler ingredients and at worst, using ingredients that have clearly been shown to cause harm to dogs. I created a solution that worked better and faster, but was also safer and better for the environment and our global community. Pup Wax® is made from high quality ingredients with therapeutic benefits and sourced for social impact (such as 100% organic, FairTrade certified shea butter sourced from Ghana). We source to have a positive social impact and are committed to sustainable packaging. The existing collection is sold in 100% recyclable amber glass jars, and we are currently onboarding with a vendor to facilitate the return of those jars, for sanitization and reuse.

For the first 7 months getting Pup Wax® off the ground, I maintained a highly visible position reporting to the executive committee of a world-leading food company, working 80-100-hour weeks to ensure Pup Wax® would be a success. I spent my corporate career partnering with international teams to deliver innovation and scalable, consistent results. Since March 2020, my world revolves full-time around building and growing Pup Wax, to realize my vision.

One of my favorite things about being a founder is being able to say YES. I prioritize philanthropy and giving back, from coast-to-coast - and beyond. I value inclusion and thought diversity as a means to bring the best ideas and solutions to market. As a bi-racial woman of color, fostering a culture of equity and inclusion is in my DNA. We source talent from a diverse, global pool with freelancers in countries including Kenya,Ukraine, Thailand & India. Inclusion is a leadership competency and core value that Pup Wax® will always demonstrate in the way we work, communicate, and recruit.

In February 2022, Pup Wax® rebranded as Puppington™ to support its growth and the expansion of its product offerings. The Puppington Philosophy is a simple way to help dogs live healthier and happier lives by starting at the building block - with simple, real ingredients.
