In addition to veterinarian-formulated prepared meals, treats, and supplements, the company also offers recipes and nutrient blends available for those who want to make healthy, whole-food meals for their pets from scratch at home.

The company has a team of veterinarians, including a board-eligible veterinary nutritionist, a board-certified veterinary toxicologist, and a board-certified veterinary dermatologist that collaborate to develop all health-focused, whole food products and deliver more life, more love, and more years to your pet.

Animal welfare is incredibly important to the company; so much so that it created a department solely dedicated to assisting rescues nationwide: The Adoption Project. The Adoption Project provides fresh meals to dogs in the care of its rescue partners, which include PAWS Chicago, Koren K9 Rescue, Unconditional Senior & Special Dog Rescue, Wags & Walks, Thrive Animal Rescue, K9 Kismet, Pug Nation, and Muttville. Every purchase of JustFoodForDogs helps fund these efforts to bring quality nutrition to thousands of dogs in need.

Founding Story

JustFoodForDogs was founded with the mission to provide real, healthy food for dogs. The company believes in the power of fresh, whole food to improve the health and well-being of dogs. They offer a variety of recipes made with high-quality ingredients and backed by a nutrition team, catering to different life stages and specific dietary needs. Through their real food offerings, JustFoodForDogs has transformed the lives of many dogs and their owners.


From the founder, Shawn Buckley:


"Simon was my first dog. I rescued him from the pound when he was just six months old. It wasn’t until he was nine that I discovered what was legally allowed to be in dog food. I was shocked and angry. I found not just misleading labels, dangerous chemical preservatives, and disgusting 'ingredients”' but an entirely self-regulated industry. One that is very broken.

I began cooking for my own dogs and saw an immediate difference. So did the neighbors, and soon I was feeding their dogs as well. I knew this was a better way. I assembled a team of veterinarians and specialists to develop healthy, nutritionally balanced meals and in 2010 launched the first-ever kitchen for dogs, making fresh food out in the open for all to see.
