Cornelia Guest is her mother's daughter. Just like C.Z. Guest—the late socialite and OG horse girl currently being portrayed by Chloë Sevigny in Feud: Capote vs. The Swans (the finale airs March 13)—Cornelia has been passionate about animals since a very young age.
"When I was little, I had a Jack Russell named Jack; he was my best friend. I also had a pony called Memo and a black Labrador named Coot," Cornelia recalls of her childhood memories. "This was my little band of merrymakers. I was with them everywhere."
Life isn't all that different for her these days, either. While much of her early years were lived as an actress in New York City, Cornelia can now be found spending most of her time advocating for animal rights on her sprawling estate in Dallas, Texas, with her menagerie of rescued pets, which includes five dogs (three Great Danes, a Jack Russell, and Chihuahua), three cats, 17 mini horses and donkeys, 45 peacocks, and two turkeys.
"I just love animals," she says. "I think there are so many ways to help our little animal creatures."
Among her accomplishments include saving and rehabilitating over 100 miniature horses and donkeys from slaughter and other inhumane situations, and actively spreading awareness about wild horses through three non-profit organizations: American Wild Horse Conservation, All Seated in a Barn, and The Cloud Foundation.
"What's going on with mustangs is really one of the most tragic things in our country," says Cornelia. "All these mustangs that are living on our federal lands are being chased by helicopters and killed. It's just disgusting. But there are so many people who fight this all the time and now I think [these organizations] are finally making some leeway because more and more people are talking about it."
Ahead, Cornelia chatted with Town & Country about her devotion to animals, along with her favorite luxury pet essentials for her fur babies back at home.
