[Anchorage, Nov. 20th] —Skinny Raven Sports, Alaska's premier running store, is proud to continue its partnership with the Food Bank of Alaska to address the critical need of food insecurity in Alaska. Committed to fostering physical health and community well-being, Skinny Raven Sports has hosted food collection and fundraising efforts to support local families in need.
Since 2015, Skinny Raven Sports has partnered with the Food Bank of Alaska to help feed Alaskan families across the state. Turkey Trot participants have the opportunity to create fundraising teams, donate individually, or participate in the food drive initiative by donating non-perishable foods.
There has been a significant increase in food insecurity this year. The Food Bank of Alaska expects to serve a similar number of families as they served in 2021 at their Thanksgiving Blessing food distribution – 11,000 families, possibly more.
Skinny Raven's focus extends beyond just the people in their community; with each race they hold, they work to lower their impact on the environment. Event bibs are printed on recyclable paper, and leftover event bibs with timing chips already applied are used at local non-profit and school events so no portion goes to waste. Turkey Trot shirts are printed locally to reduce the amount that goes unused. Shirts that are left over are donated to local needs organizations. Drinking water is locally sourced, and cups used at events are compostable.
The Turkey Trot will be held on November 23rd, 2023. Two in-person races will be held in Anchorage, Alaska, and two virtual events will be open to participants in any location. The in-person 5k begins at 10:30 a.m., while the 3k starts at 10:40. The virtual 3k and 5k will be open all day.
Racing in downtown Anchorage means you need traction you can trust. Enter Icebug, title sponsor for the Turkey Trot and experts in traction footwear. Based in Sweden, Icebug knows a thing or two about icy conditions. Icebug was founded to save the world from slipping and help everyone enjoy winter to the fullest without fear of slipping and falling with their studded BUGrip shoes and boots. Icebug believes there is no bad weather, just improper gear.
The forecast for race day is currently 33°F, with a 22% chance of precipitation and 7 MPH winds to the NE. The shoe of choice for the course is Icebug NewRun BUGrip GTX. With dynamic studs for trusted traction on the slick roads of the race course, which winds through downtown Anchorage, NewRun BUGrip GTX keeps runners focused on the race, not on trying to avoid slipping. They also feature a GORE-TEX® membrane, so rain and snow showers mid-run are no reason to turn back.
The Icebug booth will have traction footwear available to demo.

Icebug is the world’s first climate-positive footwear brand. Based in Sweden, Icebug was founded to save the world from slipping. They also want to get people outdoors more often. Whether you run or walk and at what pace you do things doesn't matter. Getting people off the couch and spending time outdoors creates change. Icebug makes shoes that allow you to be outside, no matter the season or weather.
The vision for Icebug is to be a changemaker for a society where people can thrive on a planet in balance.
Though they didn’t set out to be climate activists, Icebug’s love of the forest and spending time in nature quickly made it apparent that they couldn’t stand by and return to business as usual as the climate crisis escalated. The guiding commitment for Icebug is to do the right thing for people and the planet, even when it hurts their bottom line. They are moving into a new paradigm where growth and profit are not prioritized above everything else. A world where business is a driving force to improve the livelihoods of many and is not fueled by exploiting people or exceeding planetary boundaries. Improving their practices is not enough for Icebug; they are encouraging the rest of the footwear industry to join them in using business as a force for good.
