Details
The very best of Ireland’s long and curvaceous coastline with its iconic landmarks and hidden gems demands a deeper exploration. From the Causeway Coast to the famous Ring of Kerry, may the journey commence.
Day 1
Bustling Belfast
Vibrant and bustling Belfast where the past is palpably present is jam-packed with stories of the North from the ‘birthplace’ of RMS Titanic to charting the city’s musical prowess from Van Morrison to punk- this is a happening place.
Day 2
Coast and Glens of Antrim
Strap in for one of the world’s most scenic drives snaking around Antrim’s castle heavy coastline where picturesque fishing villages, sweeping views, wooded glens and a swinging rope bridge vie for attention. Game of Thrones location spotters’ alert!
Day 3
Giant’s Causeway
A giant sized attraction, this UNESCO World Heritage Site is a 60 million year old geological wonder and a veritable crowd puller. From here, head to the precariously perched Dunluce Castle and the world’s oldest licensed whiskey distillery, Bushmills.
Day 4
From one Ireland to the other
A short hop across Lough Foyle lies the Irish wilderness of Co.Donegal, a lesser known corner of Eire defined by geography, history and culture dubbed the ‘forgotten county’. Nature lovers, culture vultures and explorers are in for a genuine treat.
Day 5
Delightful Donegal
Of Donegal’s big hitters, the 600m high Slieve League Cliffs are heartstoppingly magnificent whilst the eerily beautiful Poisoned Glen seduces all who dare enter. This is spirit soaring stuff jam-packed with sweeping vistas and stupendously scenic drives.
Day 6
Yeats’ Country
Saunter south through Co.Sligo, its rugged coastline and laidback surfing vibe flying under the average tourist’s radar. A literary goldmine for Ireland’s great poet, welcome to Yeats’ country peppered with golden sandy beaches and diverting prehistoric relics.
Day 7
Unadulterated landscapes
Plot a course inland to admire Westport’s Georgian splendours and drive Mayo’s little known gem of Sheeffry Pass. Navigate authentic, famine-etched countryside to reach ultrascenic Connemara and an oyster rich fjord shaped by the last Ice Age.
Day 8
Captivating Connemara
Navigate the ‘Sky Road’ through untamed landscapes where wild ponies roam free, vast boglands flourish and romantic Kylemore Abbey, an enduring token of one man’s love, stands sentinel against the backdrop of the Twelve Bens Mountains.
Day 9
Glorious Galway Bay
Ireland’s ‘cultural’ capital is fun, vibrant and unmissable with its jumble of kaleidoscopic houses and cheery pubs alive with trad music. Bid adieu to the Bay and fáilte to the Burren, a Tolkeinesque landscape bristling with prehistoric tombs.
Day 10
Soaring cliffs and dramatic drives
Spectacularly sheer, the Cliffs of Moher are a 8km long crowd pleaser from where the tiny trio of Aran Islands can be espied before hitching a ride across the Shannon to reach the much anticipated headliner of the trip, the gorgeous ‘Kingdom of Kerry’.
Day 11
From peninsula to park
Delight in Dingle’s quaint charms as you move down the gears navigating Slea Head, one of the Emerald Isle’s most scenic routes. Secluded coves, castaway islands and monastic sites epitomise this Gaeltacht enclave on the cusp of bustling Killarney.
Day 12
Riding the ‘Ring’
The celebrated ‘Ring of Kerry’ peninsula drive deserves time and attention to soak up an array of tiny villages and eye-popping viewpoints. Alternatively, stay put in Killarney’s National Park replete with mountains, rushing waterfalls and picturesque loughs.
Day 13
Return to Dublin
All roads lead back to Dublin and, with a plethora of interest on route to punctuate the journey including the impressive Rock of Cashel or the diverting medieval city of Killkenny, the adventure doesn’t stop here.
