About
Perfume Who is a New York–based niche fragrance studio exploring scent as artform, memory, and identity. Inspired by surrealist cinema and dream logic, the brand creates handcrafted perfumes that blur the boundaries between the familiar and the imagined. Each fragrance is designed as an emotional landscape rather than a traditional scent profile, inviting the wearer to interpret and connect with the work through their own memories and experiences. Through cinematic storytelling and sensory narratives, Perfume Who approaches fragrance as both a personal ritual and an artistic medium.
Founded by perfumer and creative director Hannah Wu , Perfume Who produces fragrances in small batches with an emphasis on craftsmanship, intentional design, and artistic experimentation. From its hand-poured plaster egg caps to its visually driven world-building, the brand treats every element as part of a larger narrative experience. Rooted in independent artistry and slow creation, Perfume Who aims to create immersive fragrance objects that encourage individuality, curiosity, and self-expression.
Founding Story
After obtaining a degree in Fragrance and Cosmetic Marketing from Fashion Institute of Technology and studying the art of French perfumery at ISIPCA, founder Hannah Wu began exploring fragrance as a form of artistic storytelling rather than simply a beauty product. The beginning of Perfume Who came unexpectedly when Wu was invited to create a custom scent for a friend’s exhibition. What started as a small creative collaboration gradually evolved into an ongoing practice of translating emotion, memory, and visual imagery into scent.
Drawing from a personal fascination with surrealist cinema, contemporary art, and dream logic, Wu developed Perfume Who as a space where fragrance could function like a film or atmosphere, something open to interpretation and deeply personal to the wearer. Inspired particularly by the works of Maya Deren, the brand explores themes of repetition, identity, nostalgia, and the subconscious through handcrafted fragrances designed to feel cinematic, immersive, and emotionally ambiguous.
