Founding Story
Honesty Brutal began with Alex Z. Wang’s transition from a successful career in strategy consulting to his lifelong calling as a visual artist. Immersed in the worlds of fashion and luxury for over a decade, Alex understood how style could shape identity, while his own paintings explored raw emotion and movement. The “ah-ha” moment came when he realized his art could live beyond the canvas—transformed into pieces people could wear, carry, and embody.
That vision became Honesty Brutal: a brand that blurs the line between fine art and fashion. By merging Alex’s bold artistic voice with a made-to-order model that prioritizes sustainability and exclusivity, the brand was founded to create more than clothing—it was created to give people a way to wear their truth.
Team Bios
Alex Z. Wang is a New York–based visual artist and the founder of Honesty Brutal, a premium streetwear and accessories brand that transforms his original artworks into limited-edition wearable art. Before dedicating himself fully to his creative practice, Alex spent more than a decade as a strategy consultant advising global fashion, luxury, and beauty brands. He holds an MBA from Columbia Business School and studied fine art at Parsons School of Design, The Cooper Union, and The Art Students League of New York—an education that bridges both business strategy and creative practice.
As an artist, Alex has exhibited widely at art fairs and galleries across the United States and internationally, across New York City, the Hamptons, Chicago, Los Angeles, and Paris. His work has been collected by private collectors and featured in many juried exhibitions that explore themes of movement, impermanence, and transformation. In August 2025, Alex received his first solo presentation on Artsy via ArtRewards, an online gallery in Norway.
Through his paintings, Alex explores atmosphere, movement, and raw emotion, drawing inspiration from dance, music, and the ever-shifting urban environment. With Honesty Brutal, he extends this artistic language into fashion, merging the rarity of fine art with the immediacy of streetwear. His mission is to create pieces that are not only sustainable and exclusive, but also carry the same honesty and boldness that define his work on canvas.
