Founding Story
Butterface began with a simple moment of curiosity. After years of using the same classic peppermint lip balm she’d loved since childhood, founder Emily Bell finally turned the tube around and read the label. What she found was surprising - common seed oils, vague ingredient sourcing, and little transparency about what was actually going on her lips every day.
That realization sparked a deeper question: why should something as basic as lip balm be filled with questionable ingredients and industry shortcuts? Frustrated by the disconnect between “natural” marketing and what was actually inside many products, Emily began experimenting with simpler, more traditional ingredients and packaging choices. What started as a personal search for a better balm quickly grew into Butterface - a brand created to challenge toxic beauty norms and bring skincare back to its roots: clean ingredients, honest products, and a little bit of rebellion.
