Design, Customize, Print, Cut, Sew, and Fulfill - these are the steps we take to bring your product to life. We proudly sew every Anne Cate product at our manufacturing studio in Cleveland, Ohio. At Anne Cate, we craft simple, affordable accessories that hold meaning for each customer.

Founding Story

Anne Cate began in 2016 as a simple dorm room idea when founder Anne Johnson designed pillows featuring her favorite city skylines to decorate her space at Kent State University. Inspired to keep a piece of home with her, she sewed skyline silhouettes pillows of New York City, Cleveland, and Chicago—cities close to her heart. What started as a personal project quickly grew into something more.

After receiving praise and requests from classmates, Anne was inspired to list the pillows on her Etsy shop—one she had started at just thirteen years old. Within months, a national retailer reached out, and she realized the deeper value of her designs: they weren’t just decorative, they were personal, nostalgic, and emotionally resonant.

With early success and a national retailer carrying her products, Anne spent the rest of her college years sewing skyline purses in her dorm room, building retail partnerships, and growing the brand.

Since graduating, Anne Cate has evolved from a college side hustle into a full-fledged business. Anne opened a dedicated manufacturing studio in Cleveland, Ohio, where every product is still designed, cut, and sewn in-house. What began with skyline pillows has expanded into a diverse line of customizable accessories that celebrate personal stories, meaningful places, and lasting memories.

Anne is proud to be Made in America—creating her own success with her hands and now empowering others to do the same.

Anne (Catherine) Johnson is the owner and founder of Anne Cate, a Made-in-America accessories brand and manufacturing firm specializing in skyline silhouette purses and pillows. A proud Kent State graduate, Anne has grown her business from a single sewing machine in her college dorm room into a full-scale manufacturing studio, employing full-time staff and empowering others to build success with their hands.

Anne Cate products are distributed through both B2B and B2C platforms, with a client portfolio that includes major brands such as Hulu, KeyBank, and Goodyear.

Anne has been recognized as one of WAWAK’s Finest Sewists, named a NEO Mover & Shaker, and is a graduate of the Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Businesses Program. She was honored as a Notable Entrepreneur in Crain’s Cleveland Business and has received Cleveland Magazine’s Best of Cleveland award for three consecutive years (2021–2023). In 2024, Anne was awarded the Distinguished Honors Alumni Award from Kent State University.

Anne’s favorite part of her work is bringing joy to her customers. To them, Anne Cate products are more than just purses or pillows—they tell personal stories, represent meaningful places, and hold memories close.

When she’s not creating, Anne enjoys spending time with her family, traveling to New York City for inspiration, or relaxing on the shores of Lake Erie.
