Founding Story
What began as Forrest E. Mars Jr.’s personal passion project has grown into a brand that brings history to life through the lens of one of the world’s most beloved foods: chocolate.
In 2006, Mars Wrigley introduced AMERICAN HERITAGE® Chocolate with a clear mission to engage and educate consumers about the rich history of chocolate in a way that was immersive, authentic, and delicious.
Drawing on extensive research with historians, educators, and cultural institutions, we developed recipes inspired by the 18th century. These historically authentic blends, made with all-natural ingredients and spices like cinnamon, nutmeg, chili pepper, orange, and vanilla, connect generations to the complex story of chocolate’s global journey—from Mesoamerican origins to colonial America and beyond.
Through tastings, demonstrations, and partnerships with over 100 historic sites and museums across the U.S. and Canada, we invite people to touch, taste, and discover the past in a way that’s as engaging as it is delicious.
