Few snacks are more crowd-pleasing than creamy, dreamy, savory hummus. And while you could make a homemade batch, these days it’s easy enough to head to the grocery store and pick up a tub in the refrigerator section. Since the market is saturated with brands and flavors (roasted red pepper! everything bagel! pickle!), we set out to determine the best hummus brand you can buy at the store. After dipping our way through 11 brands (and 22 tubs), here’s what we think is worth your money.

The 13 Best Store-Bought Dips to Stock up on Ahead of the Super Bowl, Tested & Reviewed

Our Methodology:

The hummus samples were refrigerated until right before consumption, then stirred and scooped onto plates. We dipped with plain pita chips, rating each on a few key qualities:

  • Texture: Our ideal hummus was creamy and spreadable, not grainy or watery.
  • Flavor: Was the flavor balanced and well-seasoned, or was it bland or too bitter?
  • Quality: This was scored on a combination flavor, texture and overall impressions of the hummus.
  • Value: Simply put, is it worth the money?
  • Double-Dip Factor: Would we go back for seconds if given the chance?

Our Picks for the Best Hummus Brand of 2023:

best hummus brand: esti hummus
Esti Foods

Best Hummus Brand Overall

1. Esti Hummus

Esti

  • Value: 18/20
  • Quality: 19/20
  • Flavor: 19/20
  • Texture: 20/20
  • Double Dip Factor: 19/20
  • Total: 95/100

You might as well call it “bestie” because Esti’s hummus quickly became our favorite of the bunch. That’s because it struck the right balance of creamy and dippable, with no wateriness or graininess. The flavor was well-seasoned but not overly spiced, with no discernible bitterness from the tahini.

best hummus brand: haig's organic garlic hummus
Haig's Delicacies

Best Garlic Hummus

2. Haig’s Delicacies Organic Garlic Hummus

Haig's Delicacies

  • Value: 19/20
  • Quality: 19/20
  • Flavor: 18/20
  • Texture: 19/20
  • Double Dip Factor: 18/20
  • Total: 93/100

Many garlic hummuses border on vampire repellent and are too overpowering to be tasty on their own, but Haig’s organic garlic hummus had just the right amount of savory flavor. We appreciated that the texture required no stirring and could see this dip as an excellent addition to a homemade falafel pita.

best hummus brand: esti spicy love hummus
Esti Foods

Best Spicy Hummus

3. Esti Spicy Love Hummus

Esti

  • Value: 18/20
  • Quality: 19/20
  • Flavor: 17/20
  • Texture: 19/20
  • Double Dip Factor: 18/20
  • Total: 91/100

While other brands relied on jalapeños for a kick, Esti stood out from the crowd with its Spicy Love hummus, which is flavored with a combination of sweet Florina peppers from northern Greece and supremely hot piri-piri peppers. This gives it a balanced, slightly smoky heat that will have spice lovers going back for seconds.

best hummus brand: amazon kitchen olive hummus
Amazzon

Best Olive Hummus

4. Amazon Kitchen Olive Hummus

Amazon Kitchen

  • Value: 19/20
  • Quality: 18/20
  • Flavor: 18/20
  • Texture: 16/20
  • Double Dip Factor: 17/20
  • Total: 88/100

For being such a polarizing flavor, a surprising number of hummus brands offer an “olive” or “tapenade” variety. Among those we tasted, we liked Amazon Kitchen’s the best. The topping was briny without tasting bitter, and the creaminess of the hummus balanced the extra flavor nicely. We could even see self-professed olive haters enjoying this dip.

best hummus brand: sabra pine nut hummus
Sabra

Creamiest Hummus

5. Sabra Roasted Pine Nut Hummus

Sabra

  • Value: 19/20
  • Quality: 19/20
  • Flavor: 18/20
  • Texture: 20/20
  • Double Dip Factor: 16/20
  • Total: 92/100

For the smoothest, richest hummus experience, it’s hard to beat Sabra’s roasted pine nut hummus. The addition of pine nuts subtly enhances the flavor, and it made the texture super-creamy and dippable. This one would pair well with crudité, since it’s not so boldly flavored to overpower fresh vegetables.

best hummus brand: ithaca lemon beet hummus
Ithaca

Most Unexpectedly Delicious

6. Ithaca Lemon Beet Hummus

Ithaca

  • Value: 17/20
  • Quality: 17/20
  • Flavor: 19/20
  • Texture: 16/20
  • Double Dip Factor: 17/20
  • Total: 86/100

Here’s the deal: This editor hates beets. But Ithaca’s lemon beet hummus was surprisingly delicious. It was bright and fresh, and despite the hot pink hue, didn’t taste anything like sweet dirt (sorry, beets). FWIW, we appreciated Ithaca’s inventive flavor selection as a whole, including its everything bagel hummus and Grillo’s Pickles collab.

And a Few Honorable Mentions:

Listen, the limit does exist on how many hummus brands one can try. We dipped and tastes so many tubs. As such, there were many brands we loved but weren’t able to rank, mostly because they were tasty but lacked a certain “star factor” to earn a best-of-the-best superlative. Here are our honorable mentions (in alphabetical order):
