Inside Lindura’s Backpack

By Danica Samuel | April 17, 2024

Earth Day is quite literally every day, so outside of our one-day appreciation, why don’t we act like we love living here most of the time? Actress, model, and activist Lindura constantly finds reasons to show Mother Nature gratitude—reducing waste and having living room dance parties in her eco-friendly wardrobes.

“The longer I’m in the sustainable space, the more I realize it’s less about the things you have, the things you buy, even the things you do - and more about the values that you embody on a day to day.”

Inside the Sullivan’s Crossing star’s baby pink backpack are intentional products for her busy life on set: a menstrual cup to reduce tampons polluting the planet; refillable Cheekbone lipstick, and Papaya reusable paper towels—equivalent to 17 disaposable rolls. All paths in Lindura’s household lead to cherishing and protecting the Earth against harmful waste.

More Eco-Favourites from Lindura’s Backpack

“I try to embody the values that I think will shift our world from one that chases profits over everything; to one that appreciates and treasures this beautiful life we get to share,” says Lindura, who has amassed a large following on social media showcasing techniques, trends and methods to conscious label scanning for fossil fuels—all of it done with captivating, energy that keeps you scrolling for more. Her Earth-friendly reels and TikToks aren’t polarizing like a PETA ad but more at par with trendy slip-into-a-fit editing that makes up the digital fashion realm. Her brand has quickly become an avenue for encouragement at the intersection of fashion, beauty and environmental justice.

Many of the handpicked essentials in her backpack went through a vigorous, careful scan of about pages and labels, where she finds contentment in the eco-conscious techniques to promote a sustainable life. Since confronting the harsh realities of plastics in 2018, Lindura has committed to making better lifestyle choices for a healthier, safer environment. Alongside her sister, she’s co-founded Plasticfree Toronto—an online initiative advocating for better environmental decisions.

But the question is inevitable: doesn’t the constant research, refilling, and reusing get tiring? It’s common for many of us to approach sustainability lackadaisically—some days, we explore the worlds of bamboo toothbrushes and other days, we are back to fast fashion shopping in bulk. It’s a journey, and Lindura’s reassurance is that there’s no such thing as perfection, but instead, it’s about “doing what you can, when you can and having fun with it.” This positive approach keeps her curious, hence the several bookmarks in her holy grail book Sustained by Candice Batista.

“Every action has an impact, whether we acknowledge it or not - we just get to decide what that impact is.” Says Lindura. If there's anything we can take away from her bag filled with eco-conscious decisions, it is that we have to show Mother Nature we care. And, since we’re a part of the earth, it's a bit of self-love.
