Tiller creates sustainable swimwear designed to last using repurposed materials and ethical manufacturing practices. Tiller was founded when Kathleen Sheppard, discovered the need for timeless swimwear that would make a positive impact. Being a lover of the ocean and growing up sailing and swimming competitively, Kathleen knew the importance of creating an incredibly durable swim piece that doesn't break down under UV rays, chlorine, or by dreaded pilling.
Each Tiller Swim piece is flattering, comfortable, made to move, with a majority majority of their swimwear being reversible. Tiller Swim understands that the only thing better than one suit, is two suits, and so builds their collections with versatility in mind.
While swimwear is their passion, the future of Tiller is innovation and accessibility. Sustainability is for everyone and the brand looks forward to adding even more Earth and wallet-friendly options as they grow.
As a lifelong sailor, swimmer and ocean lover, Kathleen Sheppard wanted to help to reverse the impacts that the fashion industry has on our earth. Seeing the sheer volume of pollution, mistreatment of garment workers and irresponsible promotion of poorly made products was an undeniable fact of the fashion industry that needed to be changed.
With high hopes of helping to change the way consumers think about their shopping habits, Tiller was launched on Kickstarter in the Spring of 2019. Initially introducing fabrics made from repurposed nylon created from post-consumer waste, plastic bottles and abandoned fishing nets, Tiller started with the mission of helping both people and the planet by using sustainable materials and ethical manufacturing practices.
Two years later, Tiller has continued to iterate on its sustainability goals, launching with new, biodegradable fabrics as well as an upcycling program that will help to turn old & unworn swim & activewear into new, functional pieces. Tiller will continue to innovate our practices with each collection in order to keep our ethical & sustainable goals at the forefront of everything we create.
Kathleen Sheppard is the founder of Tiller Swim, launching the brand in Summer of 2019. Kathleen graduated from Babson College in 2018 with a Bachelor's in Business and spent her four years surrounded by coursework and inspiration to launch a brand of her own. Upon graduation, Kathleen began the conceptualization of the sustainable swimwear & apparel brand that is Tiller Swim. Kathleen is passionate about innovating within the sustainable fashion space and ensuring that Tiller is providing high quality, earth friendly and ethical pieces with every collection.
