The brand was founded when artist, gallery curator, and dad-extraordinaire David van Alphen set out to create a pickle done differently - and succeeded!
David van Alphen is a multi-media artist. While working as a gallery curator in Chicago, he became interested in pickling. When his son Jack was born with Down Syndrome, David left the gallery to focus on raising his children. A serial entrepreneur, he continued experimenting with his pickle recipe through feedback at farmer's markets. He developed his signature Spicy Garlic Pickle Chip using a blend of 11-spices. David's friends would say that the late heat "hits you like a suckerpunch", and SuckerPunch Gourmet was born.
From one man and a truck to distribution in over 10,000 grocery stores, SuckerPunch has come a long way. Their new line of pickle snack pouches are taking the world by storm, and are a perfect on the go snack without all the carbs.
Alok Advani is the CEO of SuckerPunch Gourmet. He joined SuckerPunch in February 2019. Prior to joining SuckerPunch, Alok managed numerous brands for Conagra Brands, Anheuser-Busch InBev, Bayer Healthcare, and Kraft Foods. He brings extensive expertise in general management, marketing and innovation, and corporate finance.
Alok earned his bachelor’s degree in economics from Northern Illinois University, and his Master of Business Administration from Indiana University.
In his free time, he enjoys woodworking, metalworking, and baking.
