About

Sqween is a 100% mineral, broad-spectrum, water resistant, fragrance-free, SPF 30, clean, no-mess sunscreen delivered through a unique squeeze-and-paint applicator that empowers kids to apply it independently and engages them to learn healthy sun care habits for life.

According to the Skin Care Foundation, 1 in 5 people will develop skin cancer by the time they are 70 and it's completely preventable. In the US, sunscreen is regulated by the FDA, which defines sunscreen as an ‘over-the-counter’ drug, which is why schools and camps tell grownups to have kids apply sunscreen before arriving for the day. But what about sun protection during the rest of the day? Sqween wants to change the future by teaching kids sun care habits they want to do by themselves, making Sqween wants to make sun care fun, easy, and proactive...not reactive.

Teaching kids to be good stewards of their body is often a constant battle and sun protection is no different. As parents lather and spread and spray sunscreen, they attempt to explain the risks associated with sunburns and sun spots. But parents just end up feeling like the boring science teacher their kids tune out because there is nothing fun or interesting about sun care rituals. As a result, sun protection is a dreaded chore for kids and their grownups.

Sqween is an inventive sun protection line for kids (and grownups) that they want to do-it-themselves by making it fun and interesting. In doing so, Sqween is changing the world applies sunscreen with a revolutionary applicator that empowers kids to apply it themselves with a no-mess paint-brush.

As a result, Sqween is transforming the dreaded chore of sun care into a fun experience for parents and kids to enjoy more FUN BEFORE SUN.

Founding Story

Sqween was born out of a need. Unfortunately, many years ago, Samantha's father-in-law died of skin cancer. When a direct relative is diagnosed with melanoma, there is a 50% GREATER chance of developing skin cancer than people who do not have a family history.

A big priority for Samantha is teaching my kids healthy habits that will leave a lasting imprint on their lives - brushing their teeth, eating nutritious foods, remaining active, and protecting their skin from the sun are just a few self-care rituals Samantha tries to motivate her children to adopt.

Therefore, being sun-safe is a must; however, getting any child to sit still for more than one minute was honestly painful (and stressful and frustrating). However, Samantha's time (and patience) was often limited so thinking of inventive ways to inspire her kids to engage with self-care was limited. She needed a sanity-saving solution that excited her kids to be more independent and accountable for their self-care (and limited the number of times she spent chasing them around trying to lather their faces).

Sqween was born out of a need. During the summer of COVID, Samantha's precocious daughters were at the ripe age where they were no longer willing to sit still to apply sunscreen and no one found a sunscreen formula they really loved and trusted. Samantha knew she wasn't the only grownup having the same problem and she knew there had to be a different way.

Samantha is on a mission to change skin cancer demographics by changing the world's relationship with sun protection by changing the way the world applies sunscreen. By empowering kids at an early age, Samantha believes that a family's relationship with sunscreen will begin at an early age, making it a fun, natural part of life.
