At Om Mushrooms, we harness the pure, whole-food, organic nature of functional mushrooms for use in everyday life. Our entire line of mushroom powder supplements is designed to promote immunity, vitality, cognitive health, and energy,‡ and every Om Mushroom supplement contains 1,000 mg or more of functional mushrooms and come in powders, capsules, gummies and functional beverage options. All of our mushrooms are organic, non-gmo, gluten-free and grown in Carlsbad, California.

We grow our mushrooms in an environmentally controlled, BRCGS AA rated indoor farm in Carlsbad, California. Through years of growing experience, our mycologists have developed the expertise to manage the light, temperature, hydration and air flow for each of the 11 species of mushrooms. This helps to optimize the growing cycle and bioactive compounds. Our founders, Sandra Carter (M.A. MPH, Ph.D.), a health and wellness expert with a PhD in preventative medicine, and Steve Farrar, a mycologist with over 30 years experience growing mushrooms, both have a deep-rooted passion for mushrooms.

Founding Story

The journey of Om Mushroom Superfood originates from a deep belief in the transformative capabilities of mushrooms for health and wellness. Our founders, Sandra Carter (M.A. MPH, Ph.D.), a health and wellness expert with a PhD in preventative medicine, and Steve Farrar, a mycologist with over 30 years experience growing mushrooms, both have a deep-rooted passion for mushrooms. Om grows 11 species of mushrooms in our Certified 100% Organic, BRCGS AA rated Carlsbad, California facility.

The word “Om” in our brand stands for Organic Mushrooms, as our mushrooms are Certified Organic. There is a deeper meaning to Om, and we acknowledge it has cultural and spiritual significance.

Sandra Carter is a health & wellness expert with a PhD in preventative medicine. She received her Master's of Public Health Degree from UCLA, Masters in Excercise Physiology from McGill University and her Ph.D in preventative medicine from USC. She has over 35 years of experience in community health, corporate health, research and hospital administration.

Considered a pioneer in the cultivation of mycelial mushrooms, Steve Farrar has over 40 years of experience in specialty agriculture and organic food production systems. He has also been involved in mycology and mushroom production for over 30 years.

Julie Daoust Ph.D

Dr. Julie Daoust became interested in mycology through her studies in ethnobotany and herbalism. She obtained her PhD in natural product chemistry from the University of British Columbia where her passion for mushrooms and their functional benefits deepened. Dr. Daoust translated her passion for mushrooms, herbalism and nutrition into a career in the nutraceutical industry where she brought dozens of products to market. Dr. Daoust brings her extensive experience in product development leading supplement and plant-based food brands to Om Mushrooms. Paired with her commitment to research, Dr Daoust’s jas expertise in natural product chemistry and clinical research.
