Madre Mezcal is a celebration of Mother Earth, offering artisanal mezcal made by hand in the rural hills of Oaxaca, Mexico. Crafted with intention by using nature’s most intrinsic elements––local water, natural yeast from the air, minerals within the earthen clay oven used to roast the agave, and the inherent flavors of the land within the agave plant itself––Madre’s two unique expressions, Madre Ensamble and Madre Espadin, reflect the essence of the earth in its purest form.
Jose Garcia Morales and family have been making mezcal in San Dionisio for generations and were Madre's original partners. Jose, Nicholas, and their family continue to provide Madre with Espadin and Cuishe that go into Madre Ensamble. Carlos Blas and family are based in Matatlan, started making mezcal in 1930 and remain a family owned business to this day. Carlos and his team produce Madre Espadin, which is the same mezcal used in Madre Desert Water.
