eeBoo believes that being able to tell a story, express your feelings, and speak up for yourself and others are basic skills that need to be nourished throughout one’s life. Their products teach and reinforce these skills while providing opportunities to connect with others. Their traditional play formats are ideal for family time in promoting conversation and offering old school fun across generations without the use of technology. eeBoo celebrates the gloriousness of diversity and difference, and their thoughtfully designed products respect the intelligence, curiosity, and developmental needs of children of all ages and learning levels. At every developmental level, eeBoo offers images that normalize inclusion and encourage empathy across beautiful differences. Their products are developed in consultation with educators, psychologists, writers, artists, parents, and children. In this open, dynamic process eeBoo tries to practice the values they espouse, carefully listening to their collaborators and arriving together at the best outcome: products that will engage, delight, challenge, and inform.

eeBoo uses minimal packaging, no plastic components, 90% recycled board, and vegetable-based inks. Their products are FSC certified which acts as a confirmation to their customers that their paper comes from forests managed to preserve biological diversity and benefit the lives of workers and local communities, while sustaining economic viability. Their inspiration is drawn from the rich history of textiles, folk art, and art history, scouring flea markets for bits of beautiful ephemera: Russian candy wrappers, patterns on old china, early engravings, and forgotten graphics that they creatively reimagine. An eeBoo product is immediately recognizable because of the depth of design and the breadth of influences. eeBoo commissions original art from well-known and well-loved children’s book illustrators, many of whom have received the Caldecott medal, New York Times Best Illustrated Book Award, or other significant honors.

Founding Story

Over twenty-five years ago, founder Mia Galison wanted to create a new paradigm for what it meant to be a working mother. She refused to accept the compromise of work versus family. Her office was in the basement, where she could be close to her kids and they could experience what she did. Mia and her husband, Saxton put in long hours, and along with the help of friends and family, they grew their business while raising their children. Parenting in the same realm as a home-based business clarified their values. As they were encouraging creative thinking, open-ended play, and meaningful communication in their young children, they were also infusing them into the products we developed.

For over 27 years, eeBoo has made products that reflected their commitment to family, community, cooperation, inclusion, respect, and the power of honest communication. As their children grew into adults, they realized that at every age they should take time to play and create opportunities to spend time together as a family, and so the Piece & Love puzzle brand was born. A natural expansion of the eeBoo lifestyle into adulthood.

Over twenty five years ago Mia wanted to create a new paradigm for what it meant to be a working mother. She refused to accept the compromise of work versus family and was determined to have it all in one place, one self-perpetuating organism. Mia made her office in her basement where she could be close to her kids and they could experience and help. Never worrying about what the business looked like to others Mia's kids were often seen playing in the background, her mother spotted walking into the office during meetings, or the dogs were heard barking upstairs. This chaotic but sincere mix was part of her brand.

Raising three children in the same realm as a home-based business clarified the values of eeBoo. Encouraging creative thinking, open ended play, and meaningful communication is at the core of eeBoo products. Telling stories with children, finding interesting objects in nature, always talking and working on projects together informed and inspired what is now the eeBoo line.
