Today, Crowd Cow is the largest marketplace of craft meat farms, the top 1% of independent farms and ranches, with customers all across the USA, offering the best craft beef, truly pasture-raised chicken, heritage pork, and sustainable seafood available anywhere — shipped to your doorstep from our website.

Since 2015 they have been on a mission to help people discover and access the highest quality craft meats, and to bring people together — farmers and consumers, families and friends.

Founding Story

Crowd Cow's co-founders are tech start-up veterans Ethan Lowry and Joe Heitzeberg. Lowry is best known for co-founding the hit Urbanspoon app while Heitzeberg founded Snapvine, a communication platform acquired by Whitepages.

In contrast to the grocery store meat, where the person behind the counter can’t tell you what country the meat is from, we wanted radical transparency and traceability — and higher quality — better because it was raised by people who give a damn.

The co-founders wanted to ease the process of buying locally-sourced beef from small, independent ranchers who dedicate their lives to producing healthy, high-quality meats. So, they decided to crowdsource a cow – that way multiple people could get their choice of high-quality meat cuts from local, ethical, trusted farms.
