Baobab made it their mission to create undeniably better apparel while giving the highest consideration to quality, function, design and value.
They spanned the globe and spoke to countless vendors in search of sustainable materials. And not just sustainable for the environment, but for the many people who work to make these garments possible. In 2020 they partnered with the Food Bank of New York by donating 10,000 meals from proceeds of our shirts.
Baobab has operated as a DTC brand since its inception however, with increased demand, and market changes they are entering into wholesale agreements with select retailers across US and Canada.
Baobab was founded by long-time friends Marcellus Alexander III and Brandon Davenport. The two were frustrated and annoyed with high-priced clothes that didn't last after a few wears and washes. Working and living the fast paced lifestyle of New York City, Brandon desired to embrace a minimalist lifestyle focusing on efficiency in his wardrobe. Not able to find the quality that matched his expectations, Brandon reach out to his friend Marcellus for recommendations.
He was unable to come up with alternative solutions to what Brandon had already tried, so Marcellus suggested that the pair start their own brand by first solving the "polo shirt dilemma". This one product but better approach, allowed them to focus vigorously on developing an Undeniably Better product. First they started by surveying 500 potential customers to obtain their pain-points for what currently exist in the market place. The 2x founders used this information to develop their flagship product, The BAOBAB Polo shirt.
Baobab Clothing was founded in 2017 and officially launched when its website went live in August 2018. The founders appeared on ABC's Shark Tank in October 2019 and has grown the company 60% each year since the pandemic.
