Founding Story
Chris Ashenden is helping humans take ownership of their own health, with one simple scoop.
He started Athletic Greens as a result of his personal health struggles and frustrations with his own health journey. For years he remained sick, despite doing what he thought was the right thing with food and supplementation. He’s worked on a solution with the best naturopaths, doctors and medical researchers in the world to develop a small but mighty solution - the first iteration of AG1. It was developed to be an incredibly simple, powerful and effective way of covering your nutritional bases every day. Ten years later, Athletic Greens is at version 52.

Earlier this year, the company announced $115 million in new funding with a valuation of over $1 billion. Athletic Greens has fostered a robust network of digital content creators leveraged across multiple channels who can reach new customers, authentically pulling them into the engaged and passionate Athletic Greens community. Athletic Greens is using this funding to further improve their customer experience and meet new consumers where they are and through the voices they trust, including bringing on new creators and partners, and also embracing emerging web3 opportunities. The company will also invest in its global manufacturing and logistics capabilities and expand distribution across digital and offline channels.

Athletic Greens believes that nutrition is a human right. In 2021, Athletic Greens partnered with a handful of organizations dedicated to delivering meals to children in need. Together with No Kid Hungry, an organization committed to ending childhood hunger in the US, Athletic Greens donated over 700,000 meals in 2021.
While working through his own personal health challenges, Chris realized that everyone could be taking a simple step in their daily routines to gain ownership of their health. He’s created a single product that eliminates half of the vitamins and supplements aisle at a grocery store, making our wellness rituals incredibly manageable and uncomplicated.

Chris Ashenden
Founder and CEO
Chris Ashenden is a serial entrepreneur, a health and fitness expert, investor and world traveler. He is the founder and CEO of Athletic Greens, the health company that originated the Foundational Nutrition movement and creator of all-in-one daily nutrition drink AG1. Chris is passionate about health, happiness, personal growth, and leadership in an entrepreneurial setting. A native of New Zealand, Chris is a former rugby player with a passion for contact sports.
Chris founded Athletic Greens in 2010 as a result of his own health struggles and frustrations. For years, despite doing what he thought was a proper routine with food and supplementation, he was chronically sick due to a lack of nutrient absorption. In seeking a better way to manage his daily health, he worked on a solution with the best naturopaths, doctors and medical researchers in the world, creating the first iteration of AG1 as an incredibly simple, powerful and effective way of covering your nutritional bases every day, improving gut health and giving your body a daily health caress in support of key bodily systems. Chris was Athletic Greens customer number one. His parents were customers two and three. Hundreds of thousands of customers have joined in the decade since. Chris built Athletic Greens around a mission to empower people to take ownership of their health. He believes that empowering health ownership is the path to living a spectacular life. In Colombia, Chris founded the Da Alegria foundation, which works with local foundations to provide nutritious meals to children in need.

Kat Cole
President and COO
Kat Cole is an investor and advisor to high-growth businesses, funds, and brands with a focus on food and beverage, wellness, franchises, SMB tech, and web3.
As President and Chief Operating Officer at Athletic Greens, Cole joins Chris Ashenden, Founder and Chief Executive Officer, to lead the company and will focus on driving organizational scale, accelerating business growth and global expansion, innovation, and more. Cole brings with her more than a decade leading Focus Brands as COO and President. During her tenure, she led the company’s eight brands including Cinnabon, Auntie Anne’s, Moe’s, McAllister’s, and Jamba with over 7,000 operations globally as well as the multi-brand licensing and CPG business with over $1 billion in annual sales.
Prior to Focus Brands, Kat was Vice President at Hooters, starting as a waitress, becoming a corporate employee by 20, VP by 26, and leading the company’s global growth through franchising, training, and operations as a member of the global executive team culminating in the sale of the company into private equity in 2010.
She is now investing and advising at the intersection of consumer, NFTs, web3 and the broader move to decentralization and the ownership economy.
Kat is a Young Global Leader of the World Economic Forum, a member of the Board of Directors of growth stage VC and PE backed companies Milk Bar and Slice as well as on the Board of HumanCo SPAC. Her investment and advisory portfolio includes over 60 early stage companies, with a focus on omni-channel consumer product businesses. Kat is a past member of the United Nations Global Entrepreneurs Council, was featured on CBS' "Undercover Boss”, and was named one of Fortune’s 40 under 40. She is a college dropout, yet has her MBA in International Business from Georgia State University and an Honorary Doctorate from Johnson and Wales University.
Dr. Esposito is a naturopathic physician, acupuncturist and functional medicine practitioner specializing in integrative urology and endocrinology with a hyper-focus on men’s health. His precise and personalized style utilizes a systems biology and precision-medicine approach to medicine.
In addition to advising as a peer reviewer for medical journals, he has authored several medical textbook chapters and has designed education modules for health professionals specifically on male and female hormone dysfunction, urological conditions, hypogonadism, exercise, men’s health and sexual dysfunction.
Dr. Esposito completed his medical internship at NYU Integrative and Functional Urology Center. He holds a position as adjunct professor at New York University where he lectures on integrative nutrition.
