The first three months of the year can feel like a bit of a slog for Londoners. It's cold and grey, and the long days of summer feel discouragingly far away.

I like to use this time of year to hibernate and focus on rebuilding the healthy habits I let fall by the wayside during the silly season, which was part of the reason a one-night staycation at The Westin London City sounded so appealing.

I didn't want to use any of the annual leave I'm saving up for summer for a proper jaunt, but I still felt like I could use a night away to break out of my (quickly becoming stagnant) routine. The ease of a night away in the city you live in allows you to get that shake up you get from a holiday without having to take leave, book flights, or plan out a full itinerary.

This heavenly bed was a dream to sleep in

I took a half day on Friday before arriving at The Westin London City, where I wanted to spend my time really focusing on relaxation and self care. I wanted a balance of working out and wellness, so the first thing I did when I arrived was take advantage of their world-class workout facilities.

I was able to keep up with my weights program with their fully kitted out gym (which I gloriously had all too myself) before spending half an hour sweating it out in their sauna.

I then got changed into my fluffy Westin robe and slippers before relocating to the on-site Heavenly Spa for a much needed back and shoulders massage where my masseuse workout out all the knots I've accumulated from exercise and hunching over my laptop all week long.

A common concern when travelling is that although you're looking forward to exploring the city you're in, it's all too easy to fall off your fitness regime and can be nearly impossible to fit in a workout.

The Westin London City has come up with a way to help their guests stay on track with their WestinWorkout Gear Lending Program. Even though The Westin London City has the fully kitted out gym I mentioned earlier, the program (which is available in 230 properties across the globe) allows guests to borrow equipment they can keep in their room so they can squeeze in a sweat session with ease.

Available as part of the Gear Lending Program are the cult-favourite ankle and wrist weights from Bala, and state of the art massage guns for recovery from Hyperice, which can be borrowed for £5 a day.

The Bala Sculpt & Flow kit includes Bala’s full body workout essentials such as bangle weights, resistance bands, balance blocks, and a Westin-branded yoga mat - perfect for everything from a quick HIIT workout to a low impact yoga flow, depending on what your body needs.

The Recover & Recharge Kit from Hyperice includes the Hypervolt Go 2 and Hypersphere Mini, ideal for helping muscles recover from a tough workout as well as loosen any post-travel knots.

During my stay at The Westin London City, I got up early in the morning for a run along the Thames to make the most of the hotels unbeatable location. After my run, I was able to squeeze in a pilates workout using my Bala kit, and a Hyperice recovery session all before midday - which is a whole lot more exercise than I would usually do on a holiday.

Although I only spent one night at the hotel, I left feeling lighter than air and like I'd had a much needed self care reset. I felt like I was able to take a much needed break without compromising my fitness goals, and was able to strike the perfect balance of rest, recovery and training.

Prices for a night at The Westin London City start at about £328 depending on your dates, and you can book here.
