Festivals! Gifts! Chuck Schumer! All Are Part Of This Year’s ‘4/20’ Party

Following

On Thursday, April 20, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-NY, will join six other marijuana reformers from both chambers – three Democrats, three Republicans – in speeches in D.C. for the National Cannabis Policy Summit’s Congressional Forum.

Those speeches are notable for two reasons: One, they’ll take place inside the Capitol building, “a sign of the normalization of marijuana issues,” as Marijuana Moment put it. And, two, those policy remarks will constitute what may be that day’s only serious event.

The reason is that 4/20, as it’s called, is a raucous, annual day/week celebrating marijuana culture – in what supporters consider the um, high point of the year. That’s especially true this year, now that Covid has quieted down. Among the larger celebrations:

· The National Cannabis Festival, on April 22, an open-air concert on the grounds of RFK Stadium in Washington, D.C., where public smoking of marijuana is discouraged, but sources say the “munchies zone” offerings are worth the visit.

· 4/20 Hippie Hill San Francisco, on April 20, typically attracts thousands to Robin Williams Meadow at Golden Gate Park, where, since 2022, visitors may legally buy marijuana from vendors.

· The Prohibition Bar 420 Party, on April 20, Seattle, at 421 S. Lander, next door to Cannabis City, Seattle’s first pot shop. Live music, games, music, raffles prizes and vendors will be featured at this all-ages event.

· Mile High 420 Festival, Denver, on April 20, at Civic Center Park, will feature free music. The Cannabis Community Experience, for VIP ticket holders, will take place at McNichols Civic Center.

The 4/20 celebration also often includes gifts, and here, cannabis devotees can enjoy special deals. Treez, a cloud commerce platform for cannabis retailers, analyzed 7,500 discounts representing more than $3.5 million in sales to determine discounting trends during the day and week of 4/20. It found that the top ten redeemed discounts ranged between 15 percent to 42 percent off storewide. The most typical discount offered was 25 percent off the entire store for the day of 4/20.

This year, those discounts can buy cannabis-related items that are ever-cooler, ever more complex. A few of the high-flyers:
