As anyone who has lived in a small apartment knows, moving can be a nightmare. We've all had our moments of inching a piece of furniture up stairs or around a tight corner, channelling Ross Gellar and his all-too-real "Pivot!" As one of the largest pieces of furniture in your home, beds often prove especially tricky. Well, one new startup is aiming to ease that burden—while adding big style and a tight turnaround, too. Coley Home, a bedding startup launched late last year, creates custom beds that ship via UPS in manageable boxes in just 5 to 10 days.

Founder Coley Hull came up with the concept while facing the exact struggle outlined above. "I was living in New York and it was so hard to get furniture delivered," she tells House Beautiful. "So I came up with the idea of a 100% foam headboard."

She and her husband moved to North Carolina, where Hull's family has long been in the furniture business (giving her a leg up on development and production) and set out turning the idea into a business.

"When you open it its rolled into tiny little box," Hull explains of the foam headboard. "The foam is extremely durable and dense, so when you unroll it it holds its shape."

The headboard can then be attached to any standard bed frame or to one that Hull designed to be similarly shippable: "Our upholstered frame ships UPS and also comes in a box and fits together with no tools," she says. Simply snap it together and attach your headboard—no lengthy directions and trips to the hardware store needed.

Though the bed concept is ingeniously simple, the design is far from basic. Hull, who worked in the textile business before founding Coley Home, knew she wanted something that looked high-design. So, she offers a wide-ranging assortment of upholstery options for the bed frames and the headboards. For the headboards, Coley Home creates a slipcover to slide over the foam base, a decision that makes for an insanely quick turnaround—like 5 to 10 days quick.

"We stock everything, so all we do is cut and sew and upholster and ship out," Hull explains of the process. Once you pick your headboard shape and size, browse the site's array of linens and cottons sourced from some of the best mills in the world. "Our fabrics are all extremely high end because we believe that's what you touch every day so you shouldn’t compromise," explains Hull. Customers can also add piping for an added custom touch. Unsure what fabric you want? The company offers a swatch program where you can order samples of 6 to try for free.

Headboards start at $425 for a twin XL (hello dorm room makeover) and go up to $650 for a king, while bed frames start at $550. For a custom, upholstered bed, we'd say that's a steal. Coley Home also offers mattresses, bedding, and cheeky decorative accents for the bedroom and beyond. Talk about one-stop shopping.
