Remember that really annoying classmate at school who would contradict whatever anyone said? Essentially, that’s the fashion industry. The second everyone gets their head around one thing, the coolsayers of London, New York, Paris and Milan declare something else to be our collective sartorial destiny.

And so, after 12 months in which colourful clothes have sold like never before, in which at times my local park has looked like an episode of Rainbow, the standout trend for spring-summer is, yep, monochrome. Although, let’s be clear, we are not talking bland black, nor indeed wan white. The 2021 pairing is anything but.
