•Portland, Oregon-based Westward Whiskey announced that Christian Krogstad, who founded the company as House Spirits back in 2004, is departing to pursue other interests. He retains his equity stake in the company, as well his Krogstad Aquavit brand, which will continue to be produced at the Portland distillery. The Westward distillery team is currently led by partner and vice president of operations Andrew Tice, as well as partner, head distiller and blender Miles Munroe.

•Cardenxe Sotol has expanded into its fourth market, Texas. The brand has released two spirits—Sotol de la Sierra and Sotol del Desierto—with the former bottled at 40% abv and retailing for $90 a 750-ml. and the latter bottled at 45% abv and retailing for $60. Sotol de la Sierra is distilled from a single variety of desert grown Dasylirion and Sotol del Desierto blends together three different varieties of the plant. In addition to Texas, the brand is also available in New York, California, Florida, and Arkansas, as well as online through Cardenxe’s website.

•New York’s WeSake has announced that Brooklyn Peltz Beckham, photographer and son of David Beckham, has joined the company as a partner and co-founder. The new arrangement will kick off with a new series, made in conjunction with the Sake School of America, to teach American consumers about the world of sake. WeSake, also founded by former AB InBev/ZX Ventures member Pablo Rivera, is a 13% abv Junmai Ginjo sake that is available in 4-packs of 200-ml. cans for around $20.
