Hotel Figueroa Launches New Rest And Recovery Suite For The Biggest Luxury — Sleep

This article is more than 2 years old.

I don’t know about you, but a highlight for me, when visiting a hotel, is curling up in a soft bed – with high thread-count-sheets – and sleeping like a baby.

Alas, that doesn’t always happen – inevitably Housekeeping or “someone” comes knocking – or there’s some impediment to a great night’s sleep.

But you can pretty much count on restoration and relaxation in Los Angeles, at the award-winning Hotel Figueroa. They are doing all they can to ensure that you get the full dose of Vitamin Zzzzz, with the rollout of its new Rest and Recovery Suite.

With many of us collectively redirecting our attention inwards to our mental, physical, and spiritual well-being, a restful night’s sleep is often overlooked despite being critical to our overall health function. When we consider the concept of vacation, restorative sleep in a luxurious hotel bed is often top of mind, but why not take it a few intentional steps further? To aid in assisting those who lost countless hours of precious sleep over the pandemic, Hotel Figueroa—is committing to the rest, recovery, and well-being of its guests—and giving ‘R&R’ a whole new meaning.

No one can deny that Covid-19 has wreaked havoc on our sleep schedules, with studies showing that we’re tossing and turning more than usual thanks to the added strain and pressures of the pandemic. Experts have even given the anxiety-induced wakefulness that we’re all feeling its own name: Coronosomnia. With little to no mental—or physical—separation from work and home life, the newly adapting remote #WFH workforce is feeling the new strain of confused sleep and wake patterns and fatigued hormones, not knowing when to wake and when to rest.

With a renewed focus on well-rounded wellness experiences, and most importantly, restorative sleep, properties are responding in turn, forging newfound offerings to help travelers optimize their sleep schedules, be it for a work trip or staycation. Hotel Figueroa has transformed one of its deluxe signature suites into a fitness and relaxation “zen den destination,” replete with all of the luxury wellness amenities you need to fully rest, recover, and recharge to tackle the busy days ahead.

When breaking down the sleep experience, we often think of two items that are imperative to ensuring comfortable sleep – pillows and mattresses.

We all have our own pillow preferences, and no two people share the exact same needs, which means that one of the most common complaints for a poor night sleep away from your own bed comes down to the pillow. Upon booking your “restful-cation” in the Rest & Recovery Suite, guests are prompted to fill out a quiz 2-3 weeks in advance to determine their own personalized pillow preferences by way of Pluto Pillow™, the recently featured on Shark Tank, woman-owned customizable pillow company that custom-builds pillows to your body stats and sleeping preferences, ready for you upon arrival at Hotel Figueroa.

Taking serious sleep a step further to the mattress itself, Hotel Figueroa has tapped the world’s first sleep fitness company, Eight Sleep, for an entirely customizable Pod mattress that smart adjusts for temperature through the night to maximize quality of sleep. The Pod is dual-zoned, meaning, each partner gets their own personalized climate by leveraging technology to resort individuals to their peak energy levels each morning.

After waking up rested, recharged, and relaxed after your perfect sleep, guests can opt for an in-room workout with the personal strength fitness mirror, FORME, and quickly recover with health supplements from beam, and post-workout recovery tool, Hyperice, before opting for a nice long nap.

In addition to Hotel Figueroa’s new Rest & Recovery Suite, the urban oasis offers travelers near and far a short reprieve from the hustle and bustle of everyday life with all the key elements of a restorative staycation, where in addition to recharging in the new Rest & Recovery suite, you can also rest poolside at the urban oasis’ iconic coffin-shaped pool, soak in the morning rays with a  Pilates or Yoga class on the outdoor terrace, revel in a poolside bite from Mexico City-inspired eatery, La Casita, Driftwood Pool & Sundeck, or the new health-conscious all-day eatery, Café Fig.

The Rest & Recovery Suite is available for booking here.

Originally opened in 1926 as an exclusive women’s hostelry, the iconic destination underwent an extensive redesign in 2018 that pays tribute to its rich history, melding original 1920’s Spanish Colonial splendor with contemporary touches that celebrate its deep roots in Los Angeles. Hotel Figueroa’s reimagination exceeds expectation of a new generation of guests with 268 guest rooms and suites that are distinctively engaging.

Hotel Figueroa is the newest member of the The Unbound Collection by Hyatt brand.

I chatted with Hotel Figueroa’s Managing Director Connie Wang to discuss all things sleep, wellness & Rest & Recovery Suite!

Q. Tell me about the Unbound Collection by Hyatt brand.

A: Our collection is all about storytelling – hotels with a strong sense of time and place. We are an iconic hotel in downtown LA. We were a hotel where women could check in without a chaperone 95 years ago. It fits right into the Unbound Collection. And you can use your Hyatt points here. You’ll feel transported but you can also get your points!

Q. Why did the hotel decide to come forward and launch a special sleep-cation?

A: Rest and recovery and wellness are top of mind from most of our guests and what they were telling us. We saw an influx of locals wanting todo stay-cations.” We are very much an oasis in downtown. Just a few minutes from activities – but you can relax with a cocktail by the pool, surrounded by 74-year-old cacti. The pool is set in a mini cactus grove. You feel like you are in an oasis. We are an urban resort – with a lot of different food-and-beverage venues – but you are in the middle of downtown LA. Guests told us that the hotel was a place where they de-stressed. So we decided to take that to the next level.

Q: This program debuted in August – how has the response been?

A: It’s been great. We have had a really good response since launching. You can’t underestimate the power of undisturbed sleep!

Q: The pool is shaped like a coffin?

A: Oh my Gosh (laughs) – we don’t know – we have been trying to find out in the records. Rumor has it that it is symbolic of burying the patriarchy, because women opened the hotel back in 1926.

Q: What is the sheet threadcount?

A: We work with two different companies and our threadcount is 300 – and are 100% cotton, and the most breathable sheets.

We really invested in a mattress with Eight Sleep, which adjusts to your body temperature and the amount of support you need. If you travel with a partner, the two sides of the bed can be customized separately. You can also purchase the mattress at a discount. We feature a Personal Strength fitness mirror (which you can turn on with an interface and customize and select a fitness class)  and boxing gloves, and post-recovery workout gear – massage tools – that you can use in your suite.

Q: How much per night?

A: $450 during the holidays, and after it will be $650.

Q: What makes the Pluto Pillow so fabulous?

A: It’s a woman-owned business based in LA and was featured on Shark Tank – they make fantastic customizable pillows. You fill out a questionnaire online and they build you a customized pillow – they deliver it to the hotel – and you can take it home with you. It is very unique.

Pardon me – yawn – I’m sleepy just thinking about that sleep pod mattress!
