For those with eco-conscious sensibilities, we're sure you've noticed an increase in fashion brands using the term "sustainable" to describe their newest releases. But what exactly does that mean? According to Vianney Cabrera, founder and designer of Pure Magnolia, when working on her collections, “We try to use natural biodegradable fabrics that are less water-intensive and environmentally destructive, like hemp and organic cotton. We are constantly experimenting with new options, like linens and closed-loop fabrics created from waste.”

Simply put, sustainable fashion allows consumers to shop for looks that have minimal impact on the environment, especially given the increase in awareness surrounding the monumental harm global warming has on our future. As a result, bridal brands, in particular, are gradually adjusting the methods in which they produce and manufacture their garments, allowing brides to have an eco-conscious mindset when shopping for the big day. And while there's certainly more work that needs to be done overall, there are several brands that have already changed the way in which we view sustainability within the wedding space.

Ready to learn more? Ahead, here are eight eco-friendly wedding dress brands you can feel good about wearing once it's time to say "I do."

Pure Magnolia

Based in Vancouver, Canada, Pure Magnolia began with the notion of transforming the bridal industry and impacting the environment. “Most wedding dresses are only worn once, and often with synthetic fabrics, so we wanted to make sure that the dresses we created hit as many 'sustainable' markers as possible,” Cabrera says. She also notes that the brand doesn't use any synthetic dyes and tries to reuse or recycle all of its scraps.

Additionally, since Pure Magnolia produces all of its items locally in Vancouver, rather than producing everything offshore, the brand is able to eliminate unnecessary global supply chains. “Because all our gowns are made-to-order, excess production is avoided,” Cabrera further explains, while noting that Pure Magnolia’s overall vision is to sew gorgeous, well-made, and ultimately re-wearable pieces that brides can restyle, dye, or transition into their daily closet then pass on to loved ones.
